full service salon

I'm Juli Clark and I'd like to tell you about my idea of the perfect salon. But first, let me tell you myself. I've been a hairstylist for the past 26 years and I absolutely love what I do. I never had the desire to be in the spot-light as a platform artist, or needed to charge outrageous prices for my services. I find the most satisfaction in making the average person feel their best by helping them look their best.

I'm highly trained in most areas of haircare service, however my strength is in hair color. I've had extensive training in hair color processes and techniques and am always interested in the latest technology in color. I'm both a certified Redken Color Specialist and a Goldwell Master Colorist. These certifications are just the results of a lust for information and education.

Enough about me, I really want to tell you about Phoenix Salon.

Over the years of my career, I had thought about salon ownership. However, I'd rather be behind the chair than running the show. Several years ago circumstances came along that pushed me in that direction and, luckily for me, I ended up with the best of both worlds; a two chair salon that would require very little management and yet gave me the freedom to do it 'my way' and remain where I am happiest, with the client. The name "Phoenix Salon" came from a financially devastating divorce and my need to 'rise from the ashes'. The small size of the salon was incidental; it was the guest house behind my home. I had been told time and again I should convert my guest house to a salon, thus letting my property 'work for me', but the timing hadn't been right. Until now.

At the same time my world is being turned upside down, so it goes for Angie Bradford, close friend and co-worker, and extremely talented stylist and nail technician. So I jump in, feet first. "If it turns out like it is in my head, it'll be great." My mantra for five months, at times seemed an impossible feat. But a few set backs and many bruises later, here it is, and it is like it was in my head. Pretty cool if I do say so myself!

I took 315 sq ft of what was once a chicken coop, gutted it, redesigned it and rebuilt it. It has two styling stations, backwash shampoo system, open color bar, nail station, and private room for full body waxing. The lighting (important for hair color) is primarily natural (there are nine windows and a glass door), supplemented by both direct and indirect halogen lighting. The color scheme in the main area is bold and exciting, yet warm and comfortable. In contrast, the wax room is done in shades of a muted blue-green to enhance relaxation- for a not so relaxing service.

I put my heart and soul into this venture, and I want to share the experience with you!
